NEWZSEZ

On behalf of our wonderful board members, I'd like to wish all of our Actioneers a Happy Thanksgiving!  We are thankful for our ski and boarding family and friends, and we look forward to celebrating with all of you at our next General Meeting, December 6th at Arterra, at the Parade of Lights/Sushi Boat, or on the slopes.

As we start this holiday season, we tend to look back at how this year was good to us, and then make the decision to give to those that need a little more help than us. With this in mind, The Action Board decided to support a new charity, Just in Time Foster Youth (JIT). This is a wonderful organization. Our Goal is to raise $1,000.00, and our giving period starts now and runs through to our January 3rd General meeting at Arterra. Below we have more information on JIT, links to donate, and links to their website, which is very impressive.

On another giving bit of news, at our November 1st General Meeting, Ken Hodge won the 50/50 raffle and donated his winnings to SNAP the Spay Neuter Action Project, which has been one of our charities we support. Dog-gone nice of Ken and he felt good doing it!

Again, Happy Thanksgiving, and eat all you want tomorrow, you can work it off on the slopes!

Suzanne

Every holiday season seems incomplete without helping those in most need, especially when most of us have so much. So, as we start our Celebrations, Action teamedup a new charity event — Just in Time Foster Youth (JIT) charity — JIT’s mission is to engage a caring community to help transition age youth (18-26) leave the System, Just in Time invites them to join a reliable, responsive, and real Community that helps them become Confident, Capable and Connected.  Just in Time for Foster Youth envisions a future in which every youth leaving the foster care system has access to a Community of lived experienced peers and caring adults after 18. We believe consistent, long-term help from the heart is the foundation for the success of our youth so they can thrive and enjoy productive, satisfying lives!

Sounds good, right!  Action's Goal for 2023 holiday season is $ 1,000. So, Santa, here's the link to start giving  HO HO HO

Online credit card donations can now be applied starting today.  Donations will close on January 3rd, 2024, which is our January General Meeting.

PICKLE BALL, ENCINITAS

Our Friday the 13th (October) Pickleball event was a smashing success, and I don't just mean the balls! With 20 Action Members in attendance, the court was buzzing with more action than an action movie marathon. After an exhilarating game, we gathered for appetizers and adult beverages, that added just the right amount of "spin" to our evening. Cheers to pickleball, camaraderie, and the perfect blend of sporty and social!

BEER•A•MAR BIKE•ATHON

On October 22, Ten Actioneers set off to explore some new breweries as well as some forever favorites on the "Occasionally Annual Beer•A•Mar" brewery bike ride. The ride started with a new brewery, Fall Brewing, here several folks enjoyed some hoppy IPAs and others were pleased to find a “TIKI Love God” Brown Ale Yum!

We then road a short distance to Duckfoot Brewing-one of the favorites of the area with a large selection of unusual brews and a hearty food truck where most chose to match up their brews with giant chili relleno burritos.

Next-up was Alesmith where we lost a couple participants but gained some new ones.  Alesmith has a wide selection of offerings including nut browns, porters and seasonal varieties as well as the requisite IPAs. A treat came within a visit to the Tony Gwyn memorial room where there was a photo of our new participant’s husband with Tony back when he was a basketball player with SDSU!

From there we ventured to Serpentine Cider and Lost Cause Meadery, a longer ride where we all attempted to keep up with Paul and his new eBIke.  After tasting several beers at the prior stops, this provided a nice, refreshing and unique twist.  Group consensus was that the tart cherry mead was the winner (and the wine offerings were to be avoided!).

After this we (woozily) got back on our bikes and began the return journey. Our last stop before heading home was at another new start-up, Pure Project.  They had quite a variety of fruity and aged beers along with pleasant outdoor seating. The view became focused for one member who could not keep from eyeing his next dream car.

At this time, the group was ready to wrap up our adventure, we had ridden a healthy 6 ½ miles and tasted a variety of premium offerings along the way.  Thus, we mounted our rides for the last time and began the short ride back to Ballast Point for final brews, food and football scores.

RICK HAS LEFT THE BOARD

After many moons as Council Rep as an Action Board Member, Rick Cole has decided to step down. Besides attending all of our meetings, Rick would be present at all of the San Diego Ski Council meetings and events. Rick also has been the annual leader and organizer of the Beer•A•Mar Bike•Athon event, usually set in September or October. I'm sure we'll still see Rick out on the slopes and with a dark IPA in hand.

A handful of current and ex Board members, and Rick's friends celebrated his years of service at Kahns Cave in Clairemont.

LAWN GAMES AT LIBERTY STATION 11-12-23

It was a picture-perfect San Diego day for Actioneers at Liberty Station. Leah led a troop of 12 or so. We played cornhole (otherwise known as beanbag toss), bocce ball and giant jenga.  It was particularly nice to get to know Stacia, a new member to the club. Also in getting their game on, was Carmen and Gary, Janet and Tom Walters (but no John Thomas?!?)  Jessica won the croquet game. Annie was mistress of the badminton net, and poor Roger and Ken didn’t win anything—how can that be right?  Stefan and Marlene brought their dog Carl, who quickly stole hearts. Afterward there was the essential Happy Hour at Stone Brewing, without which no Action event would be complete.
