Action members aneedre not only active on the slopes and doing fun things, we also feel strongly about giving back to the community. We encourage members to signup for volunteer events and to donate items for special opportunities. The last Volunteer Orientation of 2018 is Saturday, October 6, at 9 a.m. Please invite your family and friends to attend! They can also fill out a Dedicated Volunteer application before the orientation.

National Public Lands Day with Mission Trails Regional Park

8:00 AM  –  11:00 AM

Join Action members REI ,and the ocal grant partner Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation for National Public Lands Day! Help steward one of San Diego's largest urban parks and home of the infamous 5-Peak Challenge! Mission Trails Regional Park encompasses 7,220 acres of both natural and developed recreational areas with about 60 miles of useable trails. Volunteers will help spread mulch and remove invasive, non-native plants for habitat restoration. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes or boots and a hat and bring a water bottle and sunscreen. Tools and gloves are available - but if you have a pair of gloves, bring them! Meet at the East Fortuna Staging Area in the morning, give back and stick around for a sweet treat brought to you by VivaPops!

San Diego Triathlon Challenge Volunteers Needed

Join athletes of all abilities as they compete together at SDTC -a sports experience like no other. Celebrate CAF’s 25 years of impacting lives through sport! These athletes will complete a 1 mile ocean swim, 44 mile bike and 10 mile run on one of the most breathtaking courses in the country. Check out this video to give you an idea of what the event looks like:  Our 25th Annual Triathlon Challenge this year is set for Sunday, Oct. 21 at La Jolla Cove. We have volunteer needs on Friday, Oct.19 through Monday, Oct. 22.

Everyone deserves to feel the power of crossing a finish line. By volunteering at this one-of-a-kind event, you help CAF put on an event of a lifetime and we could not do it with you!

Past Volunteer Events

San Diego Rescue Mission Backpack Drive

As in prior years, Action Board members led another charity effort, which became a wonderful success.  This year we selected the San Diego Rescue Mission to contribute to their “Back to School” backpacks and supplies drive.  The San Diego Rescue Mission has been serving less fortunate men, women and children in San Diego since 1955.  Please see their website for further volunteer opportunities:

Adrenoleukodystrophy  (ALD) Foundation Volunteer

Stone 22nd Anniversary Celebration

Volunteers served beer, checked people into the event and helped set up/take down. Instead of paying volunteers, all money was given to the ALD Foundation.

Bluzapalooza at Mammoth Lakes
Volunteers worked cleanup crew, information booth, beer pouring and merchandise sales. Benefits the Mammoth Lakes Fire Department and the non-profit agency.

Feral Cat Coalition

Volunteers helped with a spay/neuter clinic hosted by Feral Cat Coalition at Grand Animal Hospital. Duties included checking cats in, cleaning traps and cages, transporting cats in and out of surgery. FERAL CAT COALITION WEBSITE

Action members spent a month having the school drive at our Annual Picnic, Happy Hours, packing parties and ended up filling a large SUV with over 40 backpacks and tons of school supplies.
