NEWZSEZ

Hey, Action Members,

Hope you have enjoyed your summer! So soon we'll be heading into our final non-ski months, and our ski trips are fast approaching. If you plan to join us for any of our 2023 ski trips, please plan to attend the September 6th General Meeting at Arterra, starting at 5:30PM. You will have an opportunity to get in line to register for your favorite ski trips, while enjoying a fun atmosphere. We will be focusing on making the trip registration process consistent for all trips, so please review the following ski-trip sign up procedures before then:

Trip Sign-up Procedures: 3-Step Process:
(1At 5:30PM Action members can start forming a line at each trip table. Trip leaders will provide guidance starting at that time.
(2At 5:45PM Trip Leaders will start entering member’s names on a sign-up sheet in sequential order as lined up. Once a member’s name is on the sign-up sheet, that member is free to start lining up for other trips.
(3At 6:00PM Trip Leaders will start payment processing, in the signed up sequential order.

Important Notes!:
• You need to be present or send a proxy, who must be an active Action member. A proxy can sign-up themselves plus a partner/friend or a couple.
• To speed up payment processing, Action members are encouraged to save their credit card information to their account profile at Actionski.org:
• Login with User ID and Password
• Select your name on top right of screen
• Scroll down to bottom left and select “Credit Card” under “More Member Options”
• Please read Action Trip Cancellation Policy - there have been some changes since last season.

See you Wednesday, September 6th, 5:30- 7:30 @ Arterra!

GENERAL MEETING AT OLIVE GROVE PARK AUGUST 2, 2023

Our August 2nd General "BBQ" meeting at Olive Grove Park was hoppin'! It was a nice evening in the park. Everyone seemed to enjoy the good company, the food and the drinks. John Thomas and Tom Walters, as always, bring the muscle. It's a lot of heavy lifting, organizing and cleaning, that they bring to the grill every year -- and we all really appreciate their grill day faces! Like all General meetings, we had the regular club announcements and 50/50 raffle, which Gary Jahns was the big winner!

BLUESAPALOOSA OR BUST August 3-7

A group of 12 Action members and friends had a blast attending the 2023 Festival of Beers and Bluesapalooza in Mammoth.  We packed a lot in the three days we were there. Besides a wonderful time sampling beers, listening to blues, and hanging out with each other, we also explored the beautiful Mammoth Lakes area by foot and bike and snowboard.  Roger took the 2nd to last day of the snow season, with some snow to spare. One of the most memorable moments of the trip was our Friday pontoon boat excursion on June Lake.  We rented 2 boats and cruised around the lake, listening to music, dancing, and jumping into the icy water.  It was a trip to remember for everyone who attended.

LAGUNA MOUNTAIN CAMPING TRIP  AUGUST 25-27, 2023

Last month 17 Actioneers joined me at the El Prado Big Sage group campsite for Action Ski Club’s annual summer camping trip.  One week before our trip the very unusual tropical storm Hillary moved through Southern California and dumped over four inches of rain on Mount Laguna.  Luckily by the time we got there, the campsite had dried out and we had perfect weather all weekend.

In my opinion El Prado Big Sage is by far the nicest campsite available there.  It is located in a beautiful grove of large pine and oak trees that provide lots of shade and plenty of flat spaces to set up tents.  It is a really pleasant place to hang out in the shade and relax!  Another nice feature is that is secluded and separated from the rest of the campground and other group sites and has its own bathroom and parking lot.

w games of Ladder Ball provided by Greg Pytanowski.  It is a fun but challenging game that involves throwing 2 balls connected by a rope at a ladder-type structure and attempt to get the rope to hang on one of the ladder rungs.  I have played this game a few times before but it always takes me several throws to relearn how to do it.  And even after that more than half of my throws end up on the ground…  Needless to say, I wasn’t great but it was fun!  Greg and Margie beat Carmen and me and Mark and Linda James competed against Tom Walters and Gary Jahns.

A highlight of the afternoon, while playing, was seeing a female wild turkey and two chicks wandering around looking for food near camp.  Very cute!

Cooking for such a large group is quite an undertaking and as usual I got a lot of help in both food prep and cooking and grilling!  Big thanks to Tom, Gary & Carmen for all of their hard work; I couldn’t have done it without them!  Thanks to everyone who came out; it was a great relaxing weekend with good friends!
