POST-SEASON POTLUCK April 22, 2023

Who would have guest we have so many talented foodies among us?

Action member, Linda Katzman, welcomed twenty-three Actioneers to her home for a delicious potluck dinner.  We are so grateful to Linda for hosting us and for making such an amazing ski themed scrumptious cake.  We started the evening enjoying appetizers such as tostones, caprice salad pot sticks, basil boats, green beans and guac.  If you’ve never had tostones, it’s a twice-fried plantain — crispy, savory, salty, golden coins of pure deliciousness. You must try them.  It was my first time and I loved them.

While we shared stories about our fun ski season, we enjoyed Greek and Caesar salads, followed by and a wide assortment of dinner entrees including chicken fried rice, deer valley turkey chili, lemon chicken, ravioli and meatballs, chicken and peas pasta and vegan Thai entrée.

We ended our evening still reminiscing about our incredible ski season while enjoying an incredible array of desserts.  The selection ranged from the amazing ski themed cake Linda made, to an array of chocolate cake, rum cake, chocolate chip cookies, fruit salad and fresh berries and ice cream.

Thanks to everyone who attended for signing up, brining delicious treats and making our potluck such a successful event.

BOW WILLOW CAMPING TRIP MAY 12-14, 2023

When I scheduled the Bow Willow Camping Trip for early May I knew I was gambling with the weather a little bit because sometimes it can get pretty hot in the desert that time of year.  Unfortunately, no other weekend worked with my schedule so I rolled the dice and hoped for the best.

In spite of that risk, a large group of hearty Actioneers braved the elements and came out for the weekend.  Tom Sullivan drove the furthest, all the way from Oracle, AZ!  And to our surprise (Ha Ha) nobody else was there all weekend so our group had the entire campground to themselves and everyone spread out to the best sites.

Anna Marie Sorriso provided some entertainment for us by getting her van stuck in soft sand in her campsite.  The rear wheels were buried up to the axle and there was no chance of pushing or digging it out. Luckily Terry Libby had a big camper truck and a rope and was able to pull it out of the “sandtrap”.

Given the heat, hiking was out of the question so some of the group drove about ten miles up to Agua Caliente to hang out in the pool.  In addition to cooling off, they were rewarded with a rare sighting of a big horn sheep right next to the resort.  Meanwhile, a handful of us hunkered down in the shade and relaxed.

Even though it was a little warm at times, a steady breeze helped to cool us off and there were plenty of beverages to stay hydrated.  And once the sun went down it was very pleasant with beautiful views of the desert.

Thanks again to everyone who came out and helped with the cooking and brought extra water and ice.  It was sure needed on this weekend!  Next time I’ll choose a weekend in April when it will be much cooler

The next camping trip, which we’ll post in June, will be at Mount Laguna August 25-27.  Hope to see you all out there!
