Cancelled and Changed to June 10th! Bike Ride - Mission Bay -- CANCELLED

ACTION BIKE RIDE (all abilities)

June 3rd, 1:00 pm

1:00 pm: Meet in parking lot just north of the old Mission Bay Visitor Center
2688 East Mission Bay Drive San Diego 92109( see map).
Bike

There should be plenty of parking, and there's easy access from I-5 at the Clairemont Drive exit.

Baseline ride would be a loop of Mission Bay at conversational pace with a stop at Catamaran for drinks and nibbles.

Longer Ride (optional): When we're all ready to go, I'll ask if folks want to do something longer and make some suggestions.  Some possibilities are (1) north to La Jolla Cove, (2) south to Point Loma Lighthouse, (3) south to Sunset Cliffs.  (4) North to UCSD through Rose Canyon.  Pretty much any rides from Mission Bay involve at least some traffic, but we'll stick to side streets where possible, since I know many people are uncomfortable riding in traffic.

SAFETY AND OTHER INFO

Riders should show up with a bike in decent condition, helmet (a no-brainer, pardon the sort-of pun), sunscreen, water bottle, comfy riding clothes and shoes, warm layers in case it gets cold, sunglasses, and a rideshare app loaded on their phone (in case they get stranded).  They don't need a fancy or expensive bike, but decent brakes are a must, and gears are awfully nice to have.  I'll show up an hour early with a couple of tire pumps and a few tools for little tweaks and adjustments.  If anyone thinks they'll need some help with their bike, they should show up early.  I suggest riders bring an extra inner tube, pump, and tire levers.  Patch kits are great, but once in a while the tube is toast or you just can't find the stupid leak.  I like the peel-and-stick patch kits.  No muss or fuss with dried-up tubes of glue.

If riders want to use a small daypack or fannypack for their extra stuff, that's fine, but some sort of bag mounted on the bike is better.
