January 5-8
Actions’ first Mammoth ski trip of the year was a blast. We had a few newbies like Diane
and Rob Semple, Andreas Konkokauis, Chris Kramar, Emily Arnett, and Brian Schieber. We also had returning newer members like Wen Bradley, Zackary and Lisa Soliz, and Rein and Elizabeth Dressel.
Conditions weren’t the best, but we all had fun. Saturday it snowed some, with hopes of continued flurries. Saturday night’s dinner included Sauce Goddess chicken, rice, salad, and dessert. Sunday turned out to be a blue bird day, followed by happy hour. Monday it stared snowing, but a very wet snow, and the return bus had a damp feel to it. All enjoyed the trip with no injuries on the slopes, but a sudden stop by the bus caused a couple of falls.
Victims are healing nicely.

have a lot of fun!

Our Telluride trip, Jan 21-27, encountered some interesting challenges with travel and illness however everyone experienced amazing ski-days at a very scenic location in the majestic
San Juan mountains Colorado.
On Sunday, travel day, our trip leaders Suzanne Rogers and Leah Clark, were presented with travel challenges before we arrived at the airport. Bad weather in Denver cancelled our connecting United flight. With help of an excellent United agent and our travel agent Dana Flach, our group of 33 actioneers were quickly re-booked on later flights splitting the group to arrive at different airports. Even though the later group arrived at our hotel by 2:30 am Monday morning, in near zero degree weather and some with missing luggage, spirits were none-the-less high.
On Monday, we bundled up to stay warm. We quickly learn that the groomers are beautifully maintained with few rocks while off-piste that was open to skiing, presented more obstacles. We stopped at a very rustic “Giuseppe’s” restaurant. At 11,885 feet they boast the best lunch on the mountain! New snow from the weekend, allowed the opening of several new runs and many Actioneers enjoyed the new powder having lots of fun and thrills.
On Tuesday, another perfect sunny but cold day, we ski with a “Mountain Host” who brought us
to a variety of more advanced runs, including “Allais Alley,” a double diamond run down thru a debris-field of rocks and small trees. The term “Rock Skis” and visits to the repair shop are common discussions. The “Apres” hosted by Suzanne and Leah was excellent. We consumed wonderful appetizers and beverages fitting for a day on the slopes.
On Wednesday, another blue bird day, many us are taking more time to shop in the mountain
village and eat at other restaurants. The highlight of this day was Apres at Allred’s restaurant a
stop on the gondola. The view of Telluride with a majestic mountain backdrop during sunset
was “priceless”.
On Thursday, several of us descended to Telluride to tour the town, visit an amazing historical museum rich with mining history and visit the local brewery. In 1889, Butch Cassidy and his gang robbed the local bank for $24K. In the evening, most everyone met at a rustic restaurant called Smugglers. We selected our meal from a fixed menu with delicious food and service.
On Friday, its colder and few inches of snow fell overnight. Two-additional chair lifts are opened which allowed us access to new areas. We skied for several hours finding the powder staches in “Prospect Bowl.” In addition, we rode up Chair 14 to get access to the exclusive “Apino Vino” Restaurant at 11,966 feet.
On Saturday, we packed up and travel back to San Diego without delays.
A special thanks to all participants for helping make the trip a success and for supporting trip
leaders during times of travel and logistical challenges.

Group dinner. This night we had a quiz like "Who had the most ski injuries" What condo had skied the fewest years" "who skied the most continents" and "who skied the most days in 2017" Winners recieved leftover wine from our happy hour the previous night. It was a great way to get the

The Super Bowl trip, February 1-5, was a super good time! Thursday night we
encountered no delays on the road up and arrived before 1:00 am thanks to our expert
bus driver Jim. All weekend, the weather was warm and sunny, but there was still lots
of soft snow, although thin in some areas so you had to keep an eye out for rocks.
Friday night our trip leader John Thomas made a delicious dinner with teriyaki
chicken, scalloped potatoes, steamed veggies, and his famous campout Tri-tip.
(If you haven’t gone on one of John’s campouts, it’s a good time with good food).
It was nice to have a four day trip to Mammoth. On Saturday, to avoid the crowds
some people went to June Mountain, the bulk of the group skied at Mammoth, and others
just enjoyed having a day to take it easy.
After a full day of skiing / snowboarding, many of us enjoyed the Apres Ski parties,
hot tubbing, going out to dinner and dancing, drinks with friends, and bowling.
On Super Bowl Sunday, we watched the very exciting game with friends, drinks, and
plenty of delicious snacks made by co-trip leader Annette Behrman.
Of course, no Super Bowl would be complete without the pools that Carmen Jahns
organized. Action’s hard working president, Roger Hiltpold and Jessica Youngs were
the winners of the $5 pool and Charles Richmond won the $2 pool!
Our last day, Monday, was another blue bird day with no crowds and the trip home
was pretty quick and uneventful. Thanks to everyone who helped to make the trip
a success and welcome to new members Andreas Kontolkanis, Cary Strand,
Janine Everhart, Steve & Nancy Heinrich, and Scott & Trish Harbers!
