NEWZ SEZ

Action is wrapping up the 2017-28 year. We've had some incredible ski trips this year—a ton of snow at Mammoth—sometimes too much. Fly-away trips that were great fun, well-planned and well-timed, from Beaver Creek-Vail, to Revelstoke Canada and Squaw Valley.

Also taking a bow soon, Annette Berhrman, Actions Activities Chair, will be stepping down from the stage. She spent a lot of time planning and running some unique and fun, none-ski events for the club over the last few years, like gathering volunteers to spay feral cats, Kayaking @ Humphrey's concerts, Parade of Lights / Sushi boat, and happy hours, through out the year. On top of that, the last few years she ran the M2 Superbowl trips, that takes a lot of planning for 4-days of fun. We want to thank her for her energy and commitment to Action.

Action, would also like to thank Anna Marie Sorriso, for managing the Meet Up emails over the last few years. They have generated a lot of new interest and members into the club, and we all appreciate and benefit from her service.

This leads me to Action's Year End Party, SaturdayJune 1st, Matey! It should be a Swashbuckling good time—Cannonballs in the pool!  (Please see the flyer below.)

WEEKEND CAMPOUT WITH ACTION
Bow Willow Campground @ Beautiful Anza Borego State Park
Friday, April 12, 2019

Hello Actioneers,

On the weekend of April 12-14, John Thomas hosted his annual desert camping trip at Bow Willow in Anza Borrego. This year we had near perfect weather, no wind and desert floral displays that did not disappoint.  By late friday afternoon, John and an Action team of cooks were busily preparing a fabulous meal of grilled hamburgers, BBQ chicken and salad. In the evening our group enjoyed good libations and lively conversations about Action trips past.

On Saturday, after a great breakfast of eggs, bacon and sausage most everyone hiked to see the desert flowers and visit the Palm Tree Oases within a couple of miles of our camp. Each grove of palm trees supported its unique ecosystem such as tadpoles in a ½ inch of water, birds, wild rabbits and included remnants of mountain sheep bones and fire caused by humans. On their return to camp, Scott and Alexis found a trail cougar tracks. The desert flowers in most areas were amazingly beautiful especially the remote canyons.  The ocotillo especially were fully leafed and in full bloom.

By late Saturday afternoon, as the stories of the day were discussed, John and others again prepared another fabulous meal of salmon, steak and apple pie that required baking. The campfire and follow-on conversations were enjoyed by everyone. On Sunday morning after consuming a few cups of coffee and muffins, we load-up and depart.

Many thanks to John and other Actioneers who continue to make this annual event memorable.

Four hardy Actioneers---Annette Behrman, Mike Goldman, Mary Jo Lau and Anna Marie Sorriso, braved the wilds of Serra Mesa Library Canyon and spent 3 hours pulling and hauling mustard and other non-native weeds from the canyon.   With buckets, gloves, wheelbarrows and clippers, we managed to clear at least a small portion of the canyon.  So many more mustard weeds to pull at another time!

M3 Ski Trip

Thursday, February 21- Sunday, February 24

If you were one of the lucky ones on the Mammoth 3 trip, you scored the best powder and best weather of all the Mammoth trips this season!  The three day trip just happened upon a perfect break in the weather for this epic  Mammoth season.  We arrived late Thursday night to a light snow falling, only to awaken to perfect blue skies and unbelievably light, sugary powder the next morning.  The weather stayed clear for the entire weekend and the snow conditions were absolutely flawless.  Many were saying it was the best conditions they has ever experienced at Mammoth.

So don't miss out on next year's M3 trip!  You can never go wrong skiing Mammoth the 3rd week in February!
