NEWZ SEZ

This newsletter is a late start to Action's ski and board season. I apologize. I had a little vacation in Barcelona, wine tasting, cooking and site-seeing, and a few days skiing in Andorra, a small country in the Pyrenees between Spain and France. I went with fellow Actioneers, Leah Clark, Lisa Solis and Brian Fernandez and six others. Now back and catching up. This issue focuses on M1 First tracks and Beaver Creek trips. I co-lead M1 with the best co-leader ever, Cindy Luchetti. Story and pictures to follow.

When creating the Action Newsletter, I like to show photos and stories. I can't be on all trips and events, so I'd like you to share your great shots and stories, dealing with Action trips and events. So send me your Boast & Posts, and I will do my best to get them in the Newsletter!
See you soon,

Suzanne

M1 FIRST TRACKS

The second week of January, we took off on our first Mammoth 3-day ski trip. Two of the three days were sunny—a bit like Spring. This trip also had a great mix of first-time Actioneers, as well as, long-time members.

Aptly named First Tracks, it was the first time we stayed in a lodge in the center of town, instead of the usual condo stay. There were mixed reviews—Strong Pros, Strong Cons. The Action Board decided to use M1 as the "Test Trip" to consider for future planning. Our club has more singles than couples and so we are looking at our options.

I want to say, Cindy Luchetti, my co-lead on this trip was incredibly hard-working, flexible, and fun. We had to improvise with Happy hour in the Hallway. Everyone that joined us went with the flow and I think had a good time—Open your door in flip flops or whatever, and join the party!

I have to say my biggest Pro on this trip, besides all the fabulous people that joined us, was to be so close to restaurants, bars and shops. My biggest Con was washing chili and nacho cheese out of 6 crock pots in the bathroom!

See you on the next trip!

Beaver Creek—Fly Away
Beaver Creek Jan 24-29, 2019

Buttery soft snow. Whisper quiet skis. Doesn’t get any better than that. Beaver Creek was a huge success. Wow, the condos were the nicest ever on an Action trip. Carmen and Gary will tell about the condo tour. No doubt Marv’s highlight was crowding into his Jacuzzi bathtub with 5 of his closest Actioneer friends. Clothes on, sorry Marv.

Many of us had Epic passes so we rode up our first chair of the season without ever visiting a ticket window. Weather-wise the temp was cold but thankfully the breeze  was minimal. And crowds were somewhere else-- not at Beaver Creek.  No injuries on the hill and no frostbite either!

It was a pleasure to welcome several new folks to the club. My old ski buds Diogo and Bob have been hearing about Action from me for years and finally, finally found their way onto a trip. Angie and Dan win the prize for most recent onset of skiing career and my hat is off to them. Lori and Shokoufeh are getting back into the sport after a hiatus. Hope to ski a run with you girls next time! David and Stephen came along for their first club trip in company with Actioneer Linda M. Along with Brian they were fortunate enough to enjoy much of Dawn’s condo hostess generosity.  Doug is also new to the club, and nevertheless he very kindly forgave yours truly for (mis)leading him down a long dense Thresher Glades at the end of the first day of the first trip of the season.

I warned all the newbies not to expect this level of accommodation on every club trip. Gorgeously appointed condos, wood burning fireplaces, and no shared beds. Well, rephrase that last bit: no assigned sharing of beds by people who didn’t request it. How do I know what goes on behind closed doors? Those of us who wanted a solo bed were all pleased. So it was Anne B who suggested these condos? We should take her advice more often! See you on the next trip, gang.
