Action Camping and Hiking Fun at Bow Willow Campground in Anza Borrego
Take I-8 East approx. 70 miles to the S-2 exit in Ocotillo.
Go North on S-2 about 16 miles. After giant S-Curve followed by Carrizo Wash, look for small sign on left to Bow Willow. Follow dirt road 1 mile to the campground. Bow Willow is the southernmost section of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, extending from the community of Canebrake south to the Mexican border. This 85,000 acres extends from a 300-foot elevation to 4,500 feet at Jacumba Peak. The Emigrant Trail passes through this region, which includes terrain as diverse as the eroded topography of the Vallecitos and Carrizo Badlands to the huge Piedras Grandes boulders strewn across the desert. The volcanic hills area is the only easily accessible lava flow in the park, an area that explodes with the yellow-flowered Brittlebush during wet years.
